Frozen Fire

Hi!

I've read a great book recently. The book was called Frozen Fire, by Tim Bowler.
Here's one of my favorite quotes:
(Inspiring Quote of the Day)
IQD

"Days, weeks, months, years," said the boy. "Minutes and hours and seconds. I don't know about any of those things." — Tim Bowler: Frozen Fire

The book is a deep thinking read. When I finished reading Frozen Fire, the book was actually finished. The book left me to gather my thoughts and try to create an impossible solution . . . For ten minutes, I stared blankly out the window. The book has such depth. Tim Bowler is "the master of the philosophical thriller."

Top Books This Week:
  1. Frozen Fire -- Impossibly awesome. (See above.) Ages: 14 and up
  2. Whip It -- Spicy girl power . . . Lean, mean, blue-haired machine! Ages: 14 and up
  3. The Kindling: Fire-Us Trilogy -- Easy read, but interesting, gripping story line. Ages: 11 and up.

Celebration for Emma B. on May 1! Happy b-day, buddy.

Rock ON!

Hey!!!
How's it going?
Sorry I have posted in a while.
I've been working on this top secret mission.
I can't tell you, because it's "top secret."
I'm working for _____.
This mission is all about _____ and how I become a _______.

It involves reading books. (Check out my blog next week to find out more!)

Anyway . . .

Read any good books?

I've recently read a book called Everything is Fine by Ann Dee Ellis.
Personally, I didn't love love love it, but it made for a good read. It was about
a young girl living alone with her depressed mother after her younger sister, two year-old Olivia, died accidentally. The story was slightly funny, slightly sad, and slightly what we can call the "odd factor." Everything about Mazzy is just a little weird . . . Her cryptic lifestyle, her strange friendships, and her general outlook on life made me want to read more and more.

An entertaining, out-of-the-ball-park journey.

Everything is Fine. Tell them what they want to hear.

b) Considered to be the greatest writer in the English language.

c) An English poet and playwright.

"O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name.
Or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love
And I'll no longer be a Capulet."

Marshmallows

Hello!

Are you bored? You better not be. Right now, do something from this list:

Marshmallow Time!
1. Get a bunch of marshmallows and draw faces on them. Squish them with your feet.

2. Throw your marshmallow and catch it in your mouth. Go from beginner to proffesional!

3. Grab a friend and some marshmallows. Compete! Put the marshmallows between your toes and see who can eat them (out of the toes) the fastest! But wash your feet first!

4. Balance a marshmallow on the nose. 'Nuff said.

5. Make a marshmallow tower. Sneeze.

6. Stuff marshmallows in your mouth. See how many you can fit in. (If you want to kill yourself by choking, this would be a good way to go.)

7. Play marshmallow hide-and-seek!

8. Take small marshmallows and insert into nose. Sneeze.

The Invention of Walking

Guten Tag!

Welcome to the World of Walking

Mom: Can you get my glasses for me?
Me: Yeah, sure.
Mom: They're in my bedroom.
Me: OK. (Walking up stairs.) I've got 'em.
Mom: I'm in the study, dear.
Me: Whatttt? That's like, TWO STEPS away from your bedroom, Ma.
Mom: I didn't want to get up.
Me: Are you feeling alright?
Mom: Yes, I'm perfectly fine.
Me: WOWWW. You couldn't just walk a couple feet and grab them yourself?
Mom: You'd do anything for me, right?
Me: Heh heh. Let me think about that.
Mom: RIGHT??!
Me: Yes mother!!

So that's Shakespeare for ya. Isn't that just ridiculous??

Thanks people! Read on, but remember . . .

Food, Glorious Food

Ahola, people!

Books are just absolutely BEAUTIFUL, right??? Just as beautiful as food . . .

That reminds me--

I have nothing to put in my stew, you see,
Not a bone or a bean or a black-eyed pea,
So I'll just climb in the pot to see
If I can make a stew out of me.
I'll put in some pepper and salt and I'll sit
In the bubbling water - I won't scream a bit.
I'll sing while I simmer, I'll smile while I'm stewing,
I'll taste myself often to see how I'm doing.
I'll stir me around with this big wooden spoon
And serve myself up at a quarter to noon.
So bring out your stew bowls,
You gobblers and snackers.
Farewell - and I hope you enjoy me with crackers!

The Cure for Boredom

Guten Tag, fellow bookworms!

Everyone give a whoo-hoo for Feb. vacation!

Whoo-Hoo!

The only problem about vacation: boredom.

How to Stay Unbored:
  • Read (Duhhh . . .)
  • Hold your breath . . . until you pass out
  • Draw faces on your toes and dress those piggies up!
  • Invent a weird animal noise
  • Talk in a British accent
  • Pretend to loose your voice and try to use sign language for communication
  • Make up fake arguments and resolve them with yourself
  • Email yourself funny pictures of monkeys
  • Teach your tongue tricks
  • Make a pet rock . . . name it . . . feed it
  • Hide and scare random people
  • Make an imaginary friend and invite him/her to dinner
  • Be scared of everything
  • Creep people out by saying weird/random stuff
  • Go somewhere . . . yell "CABBAGES" loudly, duck behind a trash can
  • Give your dog therapy

Don't let boredom eat you up this vacation! Get up, get out, and do something!

The Next Best Thing to the Library

What's the next best thing to the library? The book store.

Yesterday, I went to a Mega Superduper Barnes & Nobles. Wow. I mean wow.

That Barnes and Nobles made the cozy book store in my town . . . look like a dust bunny.

There were a couple floors (with escalators!!) and the biggest cook book section I've ever seen. But the problem was, the teen center was maxed-out of books because of Valentine's Day. So I had to resort to re-reading a book I've already read, but who really cares?

Truly, the atmosphere in the dust bunny Barnes & Nobles I go to is a little bit nicer. A little bit more cozy. But hey, every Barnes & Nobles is beautiful!! :)

If you're looking for something to do this vacation, go to a book store! I mean, any book store is a nice hang out place. Grab some hot chocolate and you're ready to go! (I prefer the cranberry and spice tea with the double chocolate cupcake!)

Have a happy Valentine's Day! Love is in the air . . .

See ya, friends, viewers, and random people!

Doug Wilhelm

Hello!

Today a famous author visited my school. Who? When? What? Why?

Doug Wilhelm, author of the Revealers, gave a talk during an assembly at my middle school.

A weird fact about this author: He's nearly seven feet tall. That's tall. That's taller than Abraham Lincoln, you know.

His writing style: Purely realistic fiction. Sorry, fantasy folks. He uses life instances and incorporates realistic situations in his writing. How cool is that???

His message: His books give a simple yet complicated message. Be yourself.

Quote for this Book
---
"Today You are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You." --Dr. Seuss

Check out his books. Remember, being completely normal, blending in, and being black-and-white is boring! Spice it up, add the color, and be whoever you want to be!

Thanks! Please comment on this post!

Interview with the Bookworm

Q: Do you really like to read that much?
A: Yes, I do. Reading is the second best invention . . . to guacamole.

Q: How old are you?
A: Wisdom has aged me . . .

Q: Why did you make this blog?
A: Duh, to spread the joy of reading.

Q: What is your favorite book?
A: I'm going to pretend you didn't ask me that. (Sob, sob.)

Q: What do you think of books-into-movies?
A: Well, if they stick to the storyline as much as possible, I guess I like them. But I always think of the movie version as a whole different story . . .

Q: What is the most interesting genre, in your opinion?

A: Science fiction. I find that some of the books (including Unwind) fascinating.

Thanks for reading, and remember, the road to knowledge begins with the turn of a page . . .

Books,

Books,

Books.

What's the Bookworm reading?

Have you read all the popular books? I'm talking Twilight, Harry Potter, and the Lightning Thief?

Here's a few new titles for your library list:

Unwind -- Neal Shusterman

  • This is definitely a thriller, under-the-covers-with-a-flashlight kind of book. In a future where parents have the option to unwind their children, a group of teens struggle for survival in a harsh world where everyone pays a price for freedom.

Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment -- James Patterson

  • A group of mutant bird kids are challenged by the wolf-human Erasers, the members of the School, and betrayal. Max, Fang, Iggy, Gazzy, Angel, and Nudge are put to the test in a journey readers will never forget. This story proves that everyone has a reason to fly.

The Forest of Hands and Teeth -- Carrie Ryan

  • In a futuristic world where humans are beginning to come back to life after death, Mary's faith is challenge by love, life, and true freedom. These "zombies," called the Unconsecrated, threaten the life that Mary has always known. She must make a choice: Stay in her village and be attacked by the Unconsecrated, or go out into the ominous, dangerous Forest of Hands and Teeth. This book will get you looking at kitty's coffin a bit nervously . . . Who said death is truly the end?

Thanks, and remember, knowledge begins with the turn of a page . . .
